Apply for Aid

To be considered for federal, state, and institutional need-based programs, you must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), a need-analysis form. For full consideration, the FAFSA should be submitted to the processor by the preferential filing date of March 1.

Regardless of whether or not you think you are eligible to receive aid, you are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA.

The FAFSA must be completed in order to apply for the following programs of financial aid at Illinois State:

Direct Subsidized Loans are based on financial need and have annual maximums.  The Direct PLUS Loan, Direct Unsubsidized and alternative loans are based on cost of education minus other financial aid amounts.

Use the Electronic FAFSA

You are encouraged to submit the FAFSA form electronically by using the U.S. Department of Education’s FAFSA on the Web, as it is the quickest and easiest way to complete the FAFSA. You may also want to review the financial aid application process at Illinois State University.

When will I Receive My Financial Aid Award Notice?

If you return your FAFSA by the preferential filing date of March 1, your award notice will be mailed to you approximately mid- to late-April. If you submit your FAFSA after March 1, your award notice will be mailed to you as soon as possible.
